About the History
19th century · 19th-century château
The Château du Réveillon was built in 1875 on the foundations of the manor of the châtellenie d'Entrains, a former property of the Duke of Nevers. The first stones were laid in 1810 by Antoine Comte Roy, deputy, Peer of France, and several times Minister of Finance under Louis XVIII and Charles X. Construction was completed in 1875 by Vicomte Léopold d'Hunolstein, married to Laure de Crussol d'Uzès, who died on May 4, 1897 during the fire at the Bazar de la Charité. The union of their descendant, Hélène d'Hunolstein, to Arthur, Duke of Mortemart, brought the château into the Rochechouart de Mortemart family — one of the oldest families of French nobility, able to prove its origins before the year 1000, and counting among its members Athénaïs de Mortemart (1640-1707), Marquise de Montespan, favourite of Louis XIV.
