About the History
Traditional Provençal hamlet with stone walls, old courtyards, and rustic character
Le Clos du Tuilier sits in Oppedette, a small Provençal village with very old roots. The surrounding land has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with remains from the Neolithic period in several locations around Oppedette, including places named 'le Tuilier.' The building owes its name to the tile-making workshop ('tuile' = roof tile) that once operated there — 'Le Tuilier' means 'the tile-maker' or 'one who bakes tiles,' referring to an old kiln or oven used to fire tiles. Over centuries, the place evolved from its productive, agrarian past, gaining structures like farm buildings, a mas (traditional farmhouse), ancillary annexes, and was eventually restored as a picturesque hamlet offering heritage architecture and modern comfort.
