About the History
1400s (ancient base); transformed in 1800s · neo-gothic
The castle was built on an ancient base from the 1400s and was originally the home of barons with its own coat of arms. The estate was transformed by a quirky 1800s French artisan, renowned for his religious art (with streets named after him), who had a penchant for all things English. He and his eclectic heirs left their workshop, two chapels, and an indelible footprint on the property, transforming it from a hunting lodge to a towering gothic tribute. The chateau was more recently a summer resort for French Ministers' families before being sold as a 13-hectare private estate. It has been painstakingly renovated over three years by a private, English-speaking family.
