About the History

17th and 18th centuries · 17th-18th century feudal residence with three construction phases

Built on the site of a former manor belonging to the Dukes of Normandy, Chateau d'Hebertot was constructed in three distinct phases beginning in the early 17th century by the Chevaliers de Nollent family. In 1729, through the marriage of Françoise de Nollent to Henri d'Aguessau (son of the Chancellor), the central body of the château was created. The third section was added in the 19th century by industrialist Adrien Gillotin. During World War II, it served as a German military headquarters and received a visit from Marshal Göring in October 1940. After the Normandy Landings (25 August 1944), it was converted into a field hospital by the 224th Parachute Airborne Field Ambulance. It now operates as a bed and breakfast and event venue.
