About the History
16th century · Seigneurial manor / traditional Provençal bastide
La Bastide's history stretches back over five centuries, capturing the spirit of 18th-century bastides — traditional country houses typical of the Provençal region. In 1948, Victor Vasarely and his wife fell under the spell of the Luberon and chose to spend their summers here. In 2015, La Bastide opened its doors as a Maison Airelles, calling upon the expertise of more than 150 artisans to honour the history of this historic bastide. Interior architect and designer Christophe Tollemer created a true Provençal home, animated by authentic European antiques, period artworks, remarkable wood sculptures, and fabrics inspired by Provence from Maison Pierre Frey.
