Love Story Wedding at a French Chateau in Devon

Location: DordogneNouvelle-AquitaineSouth of France

For Lewis and Katherine, France represented both a meeting point and a memory a bridge between the United States and the United Kingdom, and a place layered with shared experiences. Their wedding at Château Le Mas de Montet, a wedding Chateau Hotel in Dordogne captured this balance perfectly. The 19th-century wedding château, with its sweeping lawns and elegant stone façade, became home for the couple and their closest family and friends over a long weekend. Guests gathered for a rehearsal dinner, a poolside brunch, and evenings under soft southern light, while nearby villages offered an authentic taste of rural France. Every moment reflected their love of history, architecture, and travel, woven together in one meaningful destination.

Ceremony in a Monolithic Church and Celebration Beneath the French Sky

The ceremony took place in Église Monolithe Saint Jean in Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, a remarkable 12th-century monolithic church carved directly from stone. Its vast, echoing interior set a tone of awe and reverence, perfectly suited to the couple’s shared appreciation for heritage and design. Afterward, guests followed the pair through the winding village streets to the town square for champagne and music from an accordionist a scene alive with laughter and movement. Returning to Château Le Mas de Montet, the evening opened with cocktails on the terrace before dinner and dancing inside the château’s grand hall. Every transition felt natural, linking the sacred, the communal, and the celebratory into one seamless experience.

Design, Meaning, and the Team Who Brought It Together

Guided by Kris Mundell of Marry Me in France, one of Dordogne’s most experienced wedding planners, the multi-day celebration flowed effortlessly across venues and events. His coordination ensured every detail - from timing to transport unfolded smoothly, giving the couple freedom to simply enjoy. Photography by Mark Ward, among the t op wedding photographers in the South of France, captured both the grandeur and intimacy of the weekend, from candlelit tables to spontaneous laughter under the night sky. The décor reflected refined simplicity: white florals, hand-painted oyster shell name cards, gold leaf menus, and a vintage gilt mirror as a seating chart. Each touch was personal and purposeful, resulting in a celebration that was elegant, heartfelt, and deeply reflective of the couple’s story.
