L’Amour Fou Editorial at the Abbey of Saint-Sever-de-Rustan near Lourdes

Abbey of Saint-Sever-de-Rustan, a affordable rustice wedding venue an hour away from Lourdes became the setting for L’Amour Fou, a striking editorial exploring the meeting point of history and modern design. This 10th-century abbey, with its grand arches and sculpted stonework, offered the perfect canvas for a shoot that reimagined how bold color and heritage can coexist. Rather than soft neutrals or white linens, the creative team brought energy to the ancient Occitanie wedding setting through vibrant tones and green-centered design, infusing the atmosphere with modern vitality while keeping the venue’s deep-rooted spirit intact.

Getting Ready

The Abbey of Saint-Sever-de-Rustan, known for its Romanesque and Gothic details, has stood for over a thousand years - a masterpiece of symmetry and quiet grandeur. The creative direction by L’Amour Fou, a luxury wedding planner in Occitanie took inspiration from its raw textures and contemplative spaces, layering bold, modern styling over the abbey’s timeworn beauty. Rather than soft neutrals, the team leaned into rich, saturated hues that contrasted strikingly against the pale stone. This thoughtful juxtaposition created a setting where the old and the new spoke in harmony, proving how contemporary design can respectfully enhance a deeply historic venue in the South of France.

The cake is white with smooth frosting, partially cut to reveal a golden sponge interior. The bride wears a gold engagement ring set with a dark center stone flanked by two pale green stones, along with a slim gold wedding band. The groom wears a plain gold wedding band and a silver watch, and is dressed in a dark charcoal suit with a white dress shirt visible at the collar. The background is dark and out of focus, keeping all attention on the hands and rings.

At the editorial’s heart was a striking tablescape - a rich green cloth anchoring the composition amid the abbey’s vaulted stone. Polished tableware, patterned napkins, and sculptural florals gave each detail purpose. Maude Coulomb, one of Occitanie’s most talented wedding photographers, captured the scene with a sensitivity to both texture and light, allowing each design element to shine. The floral artistry by Rosette la Petite Camionnette added warmth through vibrant orange and yellow blooms, while Agence MDF’s elegant seating chart tied practicality to beauty. Through L’Amour Fou’s creative vision and Maude Coulomb’s lens, the shoot embodied a perfect balance of history, artistry, and bold modern romance.

The bouquet is a loose, garden-style arrangement featuring orange Iceland poppies, peach garden roses, lavender lisianthus, yellow ranunculus, white sweet peas, green bell-shaped blooms, blush stock flowers, and trailing green foliage with leaves. The composition is shot from above at a slight angle, with the bouquet resting against what appears to be a sage green velvet chair or sofa, creating a soft color contrast with the vibrant warm tones of the florals. The overall palette is bold and colorful, mixing warm oranges and peaches with cooler lavender and sage green accents in a relaxed, unstructured style.
