French Countryside Wedding at Clos d'Hullias

Patrick and Lucie met at a jazz festival in Atlanta and chose France for its roots in their lives and family ties. They gathered loved ones in Provence, close to Avignon, where vineyards edged the horizon and cicadas underlined the evening. Clos d’Hullias, a 17th century estate near Avignon and part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, featured limestone walls, lavender fields, olive groves, and vineyard views. Their ceremony opened with Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World as relatives escorted the couple, and guests settled into the scent of herbs, the hush of stone courtyards, and the easy pace of a summer countryside day.

Palette, Tables, and Florals that Balanced Modern Lines with Vintage Notes

Lucie envisioned a setting that paired clean tableware with characterful furniture, using golden and rose blush tones for a soft glow at dusk. The florist composed rose blush roses, lisianthus, and cream carnations, which caught the light against pale stone and wood. Long tables ran between historic walls, glassware reflected candlelight, and guests moved from portraits to cocktails across gravel paths. The first dance to Stevie Wonder’s I Just Called to Say I Love You kept the mood playful, while olive trees framed the terrace and the air carried notes of lavender. The estate’s courtyards, gardens, and views supported smooth transitions from welcome to speeches.

Why Clos d’Hullias Worked: Setting, Access, and a Relaxed Flow

Rooted in their Czech American and French American backgrounds, the couple wanted Provence for its connection and simplicity. Clos d’Hullias delivered with historic limestone, nearby city access, and spaces that handled ceremony, dinner, and dancing without long transfers. Guests navigated shaded walkways, found cool corners beside thick walls, and rejoined on terraces as the evening progressed. The site’s proximity to Avignon supported arrivals and supplier timing, while surrounding olive groves offered quiet for portraits. Music guided the day from strings to playlist, and the courtyard absorbed late conversations, letting the celebration close gently as candles lowered and friends lingered.
